Types of Problems

The Difference Between Surface and Subsurface Water

Surface Water

Here in Yukon, Oklahoma, the number one problem we see is caused by trapped surface water. Surface water collects on the ground’s surface from rain, irrigation systems, gutters, overflow of creeks, ponds, and lakes. The problem occurs when the surface water has no way to drain off the property and begins flooding.

Subsurface Water

Subsurface water comes from beneath the ground, which could be caused by a high water table, sewer line leaks, irrigation line leaks, water line leaks, and aquifers.

Solutions Oklahoma

We will come to assess your property to establish the cause of your standing water and determine the best drainage solutions Oklahoma. Whether you need a French drain, solid/surface drain, dry well, channel drain, or a dry creek our team will explain the best drainage solution for your property.

French Drain

If you have a large amount of surface saturation and subsurface saturation, a French drain may be necessary to manage the saturation. A French drain consists of perforated PVC or perforated corrugated pipe, non-woven geotextile fabric, and washed rock. The trench of a French drain will range from 8” – 24”. The trench will have to have a non-woven geotextile fabric to keep any contaminants out of the system. A French drain can emit or infiltrate into the street, a low-lined area, a ditch, or a dry well.

Channel Drain

Channel drains are used in concrete, asphalt, paver patios, walkways, pool decks, and tennis courts. We almost always install them in a driveway whenever the driveway slopes to the house with no way for water to flow off. Adding a channel drain will prevent water from entering the garage by directing water to the sides, then installing a PVC or corrugated pipe system to direct the water away from the driveway, sidewalk, and foundation.

Solid Drain

Here at White Willow Designs, we use a solid drainage system to adapt downspouts underground. By doing this, you get roof runoff away from the foundation, they’re also used on downspouts that emit in flower beds to get the water out of the flower beds, which will prevent root rot, flooding, and by having your downspouts tied into a solid drainage system you will no longer have mulch, debris, dirt, and rocks washing out onto your driveway or sidewalk. We always add a cleanout to our downspout system, which will save you time and money in the future if the system were to ever clog. Here at White Willow Designs, we understand that attention to detail is the key in today’s market. That is why we color match each one of our downspout adapters to make a symmetrical, flush, and clean look. You can count on us to make your system beautiful and efficient.

Dry Well

If your property is completely flat or there is nowhere to emit the water, a dry well may be necessary. This method of drainage allows the surface water to drain underground through a perforated or nonperforated piping system which then goes into a large well that is perforated, wrapped, and filled with clean drainage rock. In some cases, it can help restore your lost groundwater.

Dry Creek

Dry creek beds are used to balance the beauty of a natural drainage system. These systems work best for aesthetics, erosion control, and functionality. A dry Creek bed consists of boulders, river rock, driftwood, ornamental grasses, ground cover, and non-woven geotextile fabric. As a design and build company, there are a lot of variables to consider whenever installing a dry creek bed. Here are a few to consider, the colors of your house, how to soften large boulders, what type of rock, and what type of vegetation to plant. These are just a few of the many variables that we consider whenever building a dry creek bed.
